Guy McDowell Lahr, III 1944-2012

Guy Lahr IIIGuy McDowell Lahr, III, 67, of Springfield, passed away at 7:04 p.m. on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 at his residence. 

Guy was born November 6, 1944 in Laredo, TX, the son of Guy McDowell Lahr, Jr. and Ruth Douglas Lahr. He married Diane Burchard on December 7, 1996 in Chatham, IL. 

Guy graduated from McKendree College and the St. Louis University School of Law and had a successful career practicing law as Massac County State's Attorney, Counsel for the Illinois Lottery and Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity, and in private practice. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, and he was a member of the National Association of Development Companies. He was known for being strong, loyal, fun, a leader, and a great counselor in many aspects of life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and had a strong faith background. He was an accomplished outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed flying planes and racing cars. He was affectionately known as "Speedy." 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Diane of Springfield; three daughters, Amanda (husband, Grant) Baylor of Rochester, Carrie (husband, John) Henry of Springfield, and Sarah (husband, Joe) Robinson of Rochester; one step-daughter, Dawn (husband, Scott) Blankenship of Decatur; grandchildren, Alex, Jack, and Hunter Baylor, Grace and Cale Hatcher, and Ryan and Will Robinson; sister, Dr. Almeda Lahr-Well (husband, Ralph Well) of Glen Carbon; two nieces, Alexia (husband, Mike, daughter Tessa and son Colton) Eberhart and Arin (husband, Dan, daughter Bryn) Phillips, both of Glen Carbon; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. 

Visitation: Family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2012 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th St., Springfield. 

Funeral Ceremony: 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 at Rochester United Methodist Church, 555 South Walnut St., Rochester, IL with Rev. Kathy Sweet officiating. The graveside ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Memorial Estates, 50 Fountain Dr., Glen Carbon, IL with Rev. Robert Goddard officiating.
