John L. "Jack" Flynn 1930-2016

John L. "Jack" FlynnJohn L. “Jack” Flynn passed away peacefully on April 7 in Fort Lauderdale, FL following complications from a fall. A lifelong resident of Evanston, IL, he married Gene Flynn (nee Schaefer) 51 years ago--and considered this his best decision ever. He was the proud father of John, also a lawyer, and father-in-law of Karin, as well as the devoted Granddad of Sofia and Isabel. He was the fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. Jack was pre-deceased by his younger brothers Donald G. and Gary J..

Born December 23, 1930 to Margaret and John J. Flynn, Jack was a graduate of Loyola Academy and Northwestern University schools of Business and Law. While at Northwestern he joined Sigma Nu Fraternity where he formed many lifetime friendships. He later served in the US Army in GA where he taught military law and was fortunate enough to serve as a marshall for the US Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta. An avid lifelong golfer, he would later spend countless hours trying to figure out the game, most of them at Evanston Golf Club.

Jack practiced law on LaSalle St. in Chicago for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Illinois, Florida and Michigan bars and served many years as head of The Probate Committee of the Chicago Bar Association. In 1967 Justice Thurgood Marshall swore him into the US Supreme Court bar, along with his mother Margaret and younger brother Don. Jack always considered this one the most memorable moments in his legal career. His father John was also a lawyer and passed away in 1965.

Services have been held.
