James P. Gallagher 1938-2016

James P. GallagherJames P. Gallagher, born June 18, 1938, peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Jim is survived by his ten children: Beth (Curt) Coolidge; Anne (Dan) Feely; Jim Gallagher, Jr. (Bridget Stanis); Ellen (Tim) Kane; Lynne (Chris) Nanson; John (Carrie) Gallagher; Nancy (Matt) Graham; Michael (Isabel) Gallagher; Sarah (Tucker) McDermott; and Matthew Gallagher (Meg Hanley). He will be lovingly remembered by his 19 grandchildren: Brendan, Ryan and Jack Coolidge; Lauren, Caitlin and Sarah Feely; Timothy and Edward Kane; Elizabeth, Tessa and Natalie Nanson; Chuck and Will Gallagher; Nora and Genevieve Graham; Eva Gallagher; Sydney, Tucker and Christian McDermott. He is survived by his partner, Carol Pierce, and his siblings Sari (Dan) Nagle, Mary (Dave) O'Brien and Margaret (Aunt Margie). He was a fond uncle of 11 nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James and Georgiana (Webb) Gallagher, and siblings Georgiana O'Neill and Ellen (Sr. James Marie) Gallagher.

Jim attended St. Ignatius College Prep, and went on to achieve both a bachelors and law degree from Loyola University. He served as Second Lieutenant in the Army Reserve, and was a partner at Nagle & Gallagher, LLT for over 30 years. He also served on the Board of the Chicago Transit Authority from 1978-1986.

Jim will be most remembered for his impromptu accordion performances of "Lady of Spain," and his questionable touch football plays (many of which are still under review). Jim's greatest gifts to the world were his sense of humor and his sharp wit which will live on in the hearts of all who mourn his passing.
