Harvey A. Meyers, 82, of Marengo, local attorney and business leader, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016, at Centegra Hospital Huntley.

Born in Elgin on July 21, 1934, Harvey was the son of the late Harvey F. and Marie (nee Eschbach) Meyers. He was a graduate of Marengo Community High School, a United States Army veteran, and a graduate of Northern Illinois University and Chicago-Kent College of Law.

Harvey married the love of his life, Patricia Novak, on January 20, 1962, in Chicago.

Harvey founded the law firm of Pollock, Meyers & Eicksteadt, LLP along with his high school friends, Norman Pollock and Richard Eicksteadt, and together they were law partners for fifty years.

Giving back to the community was very important to Harvey. He was a member of the Marengo American Legion, a past President of the Marengo Lions Club, a past President of the Marengo-Union Chamber of Commerce, a past President of Zion Lutheran Church, past Chairman of the Board of Education for Zion Lutheran School, and a Players Agent for Marengo Little League for many years.

Service through business leadership was also important to Harvey. Harvey was honored to serve as the 2011 Grand Marshall of the Marengo Settlers Day parade, and to receive the 2012 Distinguished Service Award from the McHenry County Bar Association.

Harvey had many passions, including family, fishing, hunting, bowling and running. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending sporting events from his children's games and meets, to the Bulls, Bears and the Cubs. He hosted numerous family members and friends at football and basketball games at his undergraduate alma mater, Northern Illinois University. He was a consummate NIU Huskies athletics fan. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.

Harvey is survived by his wife of 54 years Patricia; two children, Mark (Anja) Meyers and Kimberly (Gary) Johnson; three grandchildren, Elizabeth, Jack and Gavin; his sister, Donna (John) Crowley; several nephews, many great nieces and nephews, and special friends. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert.
