Join the Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation for the Metro East Fellows Reception on Thursday, July 21 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel, 1000 Eastport Plaza Drive, Collinsville, IL 62234.

The event, presented by Russell K. Scott, Greensfelder, Hemker & Gale, P.C., will honor attorneys J. William Lucco (Lucco, Brown, Threlkeld & Dawson, LLP) and Lois Wood (Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation) for their leadership and dedication to the law.

Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan will receive the 2016 Distinguished Award for Excellence from the Illinois Bar Foundation (IBF) at the organization’s 18th annual black-tie Gala on Friday evening, October 14, at the Four Seasons Hotel, 120 E. Delaware Place, Chicago. The event begins with a cocktail reception at 6:30, followed by dinner and dancing. The IBF is the charitable arm of the Illinois State Bar Association.

Attorney General Madigan became the first woman elected to serve as the Illinois Attorney General and one of only a handful of female Attorneys General in the country when she was elected to the position in 2002. In 2014, she was elected to her fourth term and is now the senior-most female Attorney General.

Attorney General Madigan has brought a high level of activism to the Office of Illinois Attorney General. She has demonstrated principled leadership, putting policy before politics and focusing her work as the state’s top legal advocate on protecting the people and communities of Illinois.

The ISBA Young Lawyers Division will present "Think Fast: Improving Your Communication Skills through Improv" on June 17 during the Annual Meeting in Rosemont. Sharpen your critical thinking and legal reasoning skills with this fun, interactive seminar!

Improve your communication, listening, and quick reaction skills with this one-hour program that’s designed for all attorneys who use these skills in the courtroom to respond to questions from the judge and arguments from opposing counsel. The seminar engages attendees in a number of interactive activities that are used by improvisational actors to help you strengthen your quick-thinking and story-telling abilities. Pre-registration not required; walk-in registration only.

The Women’s Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI) will kick off a new term of office on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, during its 102nd Annual Installation Dinner at the Chicago Hilton Towers, located at 720 S. Michigan Avenue. The event will feature keynote speaker Mary Cranston and presentation of the Myra Bradwell Woman of Achievement Award to Chief Justice of the Illinois Supreme Court Rita B. Garman.  The Annual Dinner serves as one of the largest annual celebrations within the Chicago legal community, with over 700 judges, attorneys, corporate supporters and prominent community leaders in attendance each year.  The cocktail reception begins at 5:00 p.m. with dinner to follow at 6:00 p.m. 

The Lawyers' Assistance Program will host its Volunteer Training on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM at Loyola Univeristy School of Law, Chicago & Illinois Wesleyan, Bloomington

Nearly two dozen volunteer attorneys helped answer hundreds of phone calls, emails and Skype calls at the 35th Annual Ask A Lawyer Day on Saturday, April 30. Those calls helped members of the public resolve their legal issues or gave them the next steps toward resolving those issues. The endeavor also garnered much positive media coverage throughout Illinois.

On hand to answer calls in the Chicago office were (seated, left to right) Cynthis Koroll, Pamela Menaker and Alexas Collier; (standing, left to right) Daniell Saeddi, Kristi Vetri, Frank Soto and Joseph Kramer. Volunteers not pictured because they were still answering calls were Jeffrey Bunn, Joyce Wixson, Margherita Albarello, Alice Dolan and James Coogan. The ISBA would like to extend a hearty thank you to volunteers in the Chicago and Springfield offices.

Women Leaders: A Discussion on Employment, Labor & Inclusion will be held on Wednesday, May 4 from 3-5:45 p.m. at Kirland & Ellis, 300 N. LaSalle in Chicago. A reception will follow from 5:45-6:45 p.m. This event is being put on by the Women's Bar Association of Illinois in collaboration with the National Association of Minority & Women Owned Law Firms. The ISBA is serving as an Invited Organization.
