The Illinois Bar Foundation has approved 30 grants totaling $242,500 which will be distributed to nonprofit legal aid organizations statewide.

The Illinois Bar Foundation is the charitable arm of the Illinois State Bar Association and is dedicated to improving access to justice to those most vulnerable, helping attorneys and their families in need, and to providing year-long legal Fellowships to new attorneys working in legal aid clinics.

Winnebago County attorneys Joseph Dailing, Bobbie Holzwarth and Nancy Hyzer will be honored by the Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation at a reception on Wednesday, May 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Prairie Street Brewhouse, 200 Prairie St., in Rockford.

The extraordinary attorneys are being honored for their professionalism and commitment to assist the legal profession in serving the public. The mission of the Illinois Bar Foundation is to ensure meaningful access to the justice system, especially for those with limited means, and to assist lawyers who have fallen upon hard times.

The Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation will honor Patrick Kinnally and Susan Rogaliner on May 22. The Kane County Fellows Reception will be held at Riverside Reception, 35 N. River Lane in Geneva. The event takes place from 5-6:30 and tickets are $40.

Illinois Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon will make a guest appearance at the IBF’s Lawyers Rock Legends on Thursday, February 27, 2014. Lt. Gov. Simon will perform with the 5-thirty band; which consists of lawyers John Locallo, Carlos Vera, and Thomas Battista among other talented musicians. Lawyers Rock Legends is the IBF’s second largest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from this event go towards helping lawyers in need and ensuring access to justice. Tickets for the event are still available. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

The Illinois Bar Foundation will host the annual Lawyers Rock Legends on Thursday, Feb. 27. This evening of Rock, Motown, Jazz & Blues will take place beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Buddy Guy's Legends, 700 S. Wabash.

The Illinois Bar Foundation has launched a fellowship program to benefit both new law school graduates and low-income residents who need access to the civil justice system.

During this initial year, the Foundation will partner with three Illinois Law Schools and share the cost of salary and benefits with participating law schools so each can hire a recent graduate to work in that school’s civil legal aid clinic. The law school will select and employ the student and the IBF hopes to match selected graduates with mentors that can help the young attorneys develop.

The Illinois Bar Foundation will host a Champaign County Fellows Reception honoring U.S. District Judge Michael P. McCuskey on Wednesday, Nov. 20 from 5-6:30 p.m. This event will be held at Crane Alley Restaurant, 115 W. Main Street, Urbana.

The Fellows of the Illinois Bar Foundation are a unique group of attorneys and judges, who have committed, by direct payment or pledge over 10 years, sums of money ranging from $1,000 to $25,000.

Fellows pledge payments are retained in a special fund of the Foundation, and are used for making grants, helping lawyers and their families in need, and providing legal fellowships to new attorneys in their alma mater’s legal aid clinic.

The Illinois Bar Foundation has added two members to its Board of Directors.

Newly-elected members are Deane B. Brown, of Highland Park, a partner in the Chicago law firm of Beermann, Pritikin, Mirabelli, Swerdlove LLP; and Karen McNulty Enright, of Elmhurst, an attorney with McNabola Law Group, in Chicago.
