Judge Leighton, who is now 99 years of age, was an acclaimed civil and criminal attorney who practiced law in that buillding before ascending the bench to become a Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County, a Justice on the Illinois Appellate Court, and a Judge on the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.

    Judge Leighton and Judge Ann Claire Williams display a rock which is encased in plastic, dated March 17, 1936. That is when Judge Leighton, as a young man, found the rock amidst potatoes he was peeling at a restaurant job. He decided to keep the rock, and it has accompanied him throughout his life journey.
