James Blanchard 1936-2017

James Bernard BlanchardBeloved father and devoted husband James Bernard Blanchard, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9th, 2017 at the King Bruwaert House in Burr Ridge after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. He was preceded in death by his wife Marcia (Daniell) and cherished son Jonathan. He is survived by his six children; William (Victoria Harris), Eric (Martha Jaquez), Peter (Meena Khandelwal), Christopher (Laurie), Michael (Katie) and Anne (Michael Kahn), and his 15 grandchildren Lillian, James, Isabel, Nicolas, Jonathan, Uma, Jaya, Sophia, Julia, Ben, Abigail, Belle, Harley, Harrison and Maxwell.

Born and raised in Green Bay, WI, the son of Bernard E. Blanchard and Gladys E. (Greenwood) Blanchard, he attended Green Bay West High School where he participated in football and track. He also achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Jim received a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Michigan in 1958, where he was a member of Tau Beta Pi honor society, and went on to earn his J.D. from the University of Michigan School of Law. There he served as an editor of the Michigan Law Review and received the Jason L. Honigman Award. While serving as Captain in the U.S. Army, Jim clerked for the Judge Advocate General at the Pentagon. He then joined the law firm of Hume, Groen, Clement & Hume (now known as Brinks, Gilson & Lione) as a patent and trademark attorney. He became a senior partner and continued to practice intellectual property litigation at the firm for more than 30 years.

An avid sailor, Jim loved to spend time sailing Lake Michigan in Door County, WI. He also enjoyed skiing and reading, but most of all, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. Throughout his life Jim set an example of hard work, integrity, kindness and honesty. He was a wonderful father and he will be missed immensely. Services have been held.
